Today, one day before February 14, Day of Love, I experienced this show of disrespect from a cashier! – a lady at that! The scenario was: my daughter and I went to a mall. When the time came for us to go home, we decided to buy snacks – to go – from a prominent food chain. Since you pay before anything is done so we waited for the bill. I showed my senior citizen Identification Card to avail of some discount. The cashier began murmuring but we did not think of it as something to worry about. It became something to worry about when she kept came up with 3 different receipts and could not still decide how much. So my daughter asked what exactly is the problem why it is taking her so long and time is passing by. The cashier candidly remarked: “It is a hassle when senior citizens ask for their discount . . . ”
Before I could react, my daughter gave her the “best food for thought” and even told her she could even make a case out of it and render her “jobless”. As always, all the cashier could do was apologize profusely. All I could do from my end was to gather all our orders and called it a day . . . before another display of emotions could get out of hand.
When we reached home, we ate with gusto and looked at the whole mess as a prelude to what love is when Valentine’s Day cupid targets each person with more love than fiasco . . . By the way, the discount given amounted to 14 Philippine pesos . . . not enough to buy medicines for high blood attack or heart failure 😀
