5 Mistakes To Avoid When Moving

Are you planning to move in the near future? There are a lot of things to think about – trust me. I’ve moved more than once and each time I do, I end up majorly stressed out. To prevent this from happening in the future (me getting stressed out), I created this list of reminders for myself. It includes every mistake that I have made in the past, so hopefully, I won’t make them again, in the future. I hope that this helps you, as well, if you are moving anytime soon.

Here are five mistakes to avoid when relocating so that your move goes as smoothly as possible:

DOING IT ALONE

It’s possible to hire a van and move your possessions yourself. However, if you have a lot of items that you need to move, it could take you days (or weeks – or months) to move them all yourself. There may even be some items like furniture and appliances that are dangerous to carry alone. That’s why I suggest hiring professional movers such as New Jersey Transport Inc Moving Company. New Jersey Transport Inc. Moving Company prides themselves on giving all of their customers the very best moving experience in the industry. They have a well-known reputation for being honest, reliable, and professional. Their company values include honesty, transparency, timeliness, reliability, and more, so your valuables are in hands that you can trust. PACKING LAST MINUTE

You may be able to get away packing at the last minute for a vacation, but when it comes to moving homes, you don’t want to still be packing items into boxes on moving day. Make sure to start the packing process a few weeks in advance so that you can tackle it in an organized manner.

TAKING STUFF YOU DON’T NEED

Moving to a new home is the perfect opportunity to declutter. Don’t take items with you that you don’t want to keep – sort these into bags that can be taken to the dump or your local charity store. You may even be able to sell items for cash such as clothes and toys. Sites such as Poshmark or Ebay are great for selling unwanted items. Alternatively, you may be able to throw a yard sale or take items to a second-hand store in your area.

NOT HIRING A BABYSITTER/PET SITTER

Moving day could be a hazardous environment for your kids and pets as there will be lots of heavy items being carried around. Consider hiring someone to look after your kids and pets on moving day so that you can focus on coordinating the move. You may be able to get friends and family to do this, or you could consider hiring a babysitter/pet sitter.

Forgetting to notify the right people

You may need to tell certain people about your move in advance such as insurance and loan providers so that your bills are directed to your new address. It could even damage your credit score if certain providers or your bank is still registered with an old address. Meanwhile, having a driver’s license registered to an old address could even be illegal. Use sites such as “I Am Moving” (Search it on Google) to go through a checklist of all the people that need to be notified. Obviously, you should also notify friends and family members, especially those who live far away and who may still send birthday or holiday cards.
