3 Fave Spots In New York City For First Time Visitors

One of the most exciting moments is to see a place or anything for the FIRST time. All senses are heightened and “juices flow so to speak.”

Going to a place for the first time focuses on the senses of seeing and hearing but it is safer to say all senses are triggered. Three fave spots come to mind for newcomers like me.The Times Square.

1)Times Square tells you what New York offers in terms of kaleidoscope of lights, ads, glitters, shows on one side and wide array of human beings gathered in one place: different languages being uttered, varied age levels of humanity acting according to their wont, different strata of life-rich, middle, poor, very poor on display. So many realities in one place!

All you have to do is stay In one spot and savor the surroundings… If you have companions, feel free to close your eyes to hear the nuances of noise, sounds and lights!

This Christmas, beautiful young girls go around dressed like Christmas trees. Famous cartoon characters walk around Times Square to entice you, the consumer, to watch their incoming movies, plays and the like. The already saturated display of lights becomes more meaningful with Christmas greetings and show of happy faces waiting for Christmas 25, 2018!

Then when December 31 comes, we will expect the Countdown to give way to the NEW YEAR: 2019! What a full month of expectations!

2) Penn Station

Neither Snow Nor Rain Nor Heat Nor Gloom Of Night Stays These Couriers From The Swift Completion Of Their Appointed Rounds

This mission is emblazoned in stone right up the very big building called PENN STATION. The long stairway draws you to New York Postal Service which is another service to New Yorkers. The doves gleefully fly around the stairway which is inviting for their love of flying in droves.

How do you go to Penn Station? For one, the subway train office located in any entry part to the station gives you free copy of the Map. This will be your guide in going there. Furthermore, the personnel of the subway train are very helpful in telling you what to do. I actually listened to one conversation such as this.

In my case, I found out through my exploration that the Penn Station is located in 34th Street. To visit the area, all I had to do was walk for a few blocks and take my time to look around and take photos!

While I was there a photo shoot was going on and the doves did not fail to show off too!

At the side are signs telling the travelers where to go for their train trips. Remember” Neither Snow Nor Rain Nor Heat Nor Gloom Of Night Stays These Couriers From The Swift Completion Of Their Appointed Rounds” which I do not dare explain what it truly wants to say but at least it is afe to say the Penn Station intends to SERVE NO MATTER WHAT.

Across is Madison Square Garden, another place to visit which is noted for BIG shows and games. The BIG ADVERTISEMENTS are there for your information as to when these festivities are going to happen.

3)  New York Public Library Manhattan. It is a Science, Industry and Business Library (SIBL), located in 188 Madison Avenue @34th Street, New York. Visit their website: http://www.nypl.org.

How do you get there? I was in 34 Street. I cross the street going to Madison Square Garden. Use Lucy Cafe as your marker. In front of it is where you buy a bus ticket using your Metro Card.

In using the library free library cards are available. Take note that one can avail of free library card to anyone who lives, works, attends school, or pays property taxes in New York State. You can apply online:nypl.org/ librarycard. Researchers may want to use their research collections or make an appointment with a research specialist so go to nypl.og/researchcollections.

In my case, I used to go to this library when I want to expand my horizon of knowing, researching New York.  I stay there for hours on end or at least up to 4pm in time to meet up with my daughter. While I enriched my mind I also availed of their other amenities like the very clean rest rooms in a public library!

Expect more fave spots as I become more inspired to conquer New York City!
