The Philippines had 2 Miss Universe winners in the past: Gloria Diaz and Margie Moran then no more for the next 40 plus years. Then a determined Miss Philippines-Universe contestant decided the 4 decades seem too long to wait. She decided she would become Miss Universe crown even if it meant joining the pageant three (3) times. The rest is history. May I introduce Miss Universe: Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, a Filipino and reigning Miss Universe . . .
For us from Mindanao especially Cagayan de Oro City, Pia symbolizes hard work, determination, faith and beauty. Some of the terms used are borrowed from Pia herself.
